Today Tristan (age 8) and I took a break from Wii Play to enjoy some NES Ice Hockey, thanks to a Wii Virtual Console download.

After we were done playing, I asked him what he thought of the game. He liked it; it was simple and he successfully figured out how to play quickly enough to be a good competitor. Given that Ice Hockey is no less sophisticated than Wii Sports or Wii Play, I decided to drill down a bit, curious to see if he saw it as a 20 year-old game or just another game. Here’s how our exchange went:
Me: | Do you know where this game comes from? |
T: | The same people who made Mario? |
Me: | Right. When do you think this game was made? |
T: | 1920, 1930 maybe. |
Me: | What makes you think that? |
T: | Just because of the way it was made, and that you probably played it when you were a kid |
I’d like to think he meant that it would have been around already for some time when I was a kid, not that I would have played it as a kid in 1920 or 1930. Right? Right?!
